The below work is my final project from my BFA in Textile Art & Artefact, which was exhibited on-campus in the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, in 2018. It explores the often complex relationship that many queer people have with femininity.
Included are quotes from a series of interviews I conducted with queer women, nonbinary people, and transmasculine people who felt a connection, positive or negative, to femininity. It also includes quotes from my own automatic writing on my relationship to femininity, as a queer person who was at the time coming to terms with their newly found transmasculine identity.
The hyperfeminine aesthetic of this project is a love letter to the radical reconstruction of femininity that queer femmes engage in everyday by creating a vision of femininity detached from cisheterosexual ideals.
